VO2Max quantifies how effectively your body utilizes oxygen during physical exertion. It serves as an objective measure of your fitness level and is a primary indicator of longevity. When you inhale, your lungs absorb oxygen and transfer it to your bloodstream. This oxygen is then transported by red blood cells to your organs and muscles. Oxygen is required by muscle cells to generate ATP, the body's principal energy source. ATP provides the power muscles need for movement and physical effort. The greater your capacity to absorb and use oxygen, the more ATP is synthesized, which is why your breathing accelerates during strenuous activity.
An elevated VO2Max score signifies that your heart, lungs, circulatory system, and muscles are operating together with high efficiency, meaning your body can absorb, transport, and utilize oxygen more effectively.
