VO2Max is a measure of how efficiently your body utilizes oxygen while you are physically active. It serves as an objective indicator of your fitness level and is a primary marker for longevity. During respiration, your lungs absorb oxygen and transfer it into your blood. This oxygen is then carried by red blood cells to your muscles and organs. Oxygen is essential for muscle cells to generate ATP, the body's principal energy currency. ATP supplies the necessary energy for muscle contraction and physical effort. The greater your capacity to absorb and use oxygen, the more ATP is created, explaining why your breathing rate increases during exertion.
