VO2Max is a measure of your body's efficiency in using oxygen during exercise. It serves as an objective indicator of your fitness level and is a crucial biomarker for longevity. As you inhale, your lungs absorb oxygen and transfer it into your blood. This oxygen is then carried by red blood cells to your muscles and organs. To generate ATP, which is the primary energy source for the body, your muscle cells require oxygen. The energy needed for muscular movement and effort comes from ATP. Your breathing rate increases with exertion because a greater intake and use of oxygen leads to higher ATP production.
An elevated VO2Max score indicates that your cardiovascular system and muscles are functioning with exceptional efficiency, allowing your body to more effectively absorb, transport, and utilize oxygen.
